Servings: 6

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Mom's original stuffing from as young as I can remember.

Ingredients

1 loaf of dense white bread

1 head of celery

1 white onion

1 pkg of fresh sliced mushrooms

1/2 cube butter (more if desired)

chicken stock

poultry seasoning

S & P

Directions

Tear the bread into small pieces and lay out on a clean dish towel.  Allow the bread to dry overnight.

In large skillet, melt butter.  Add celery, onion and mushrooms and sauté until almost done.  Into this skillet, add poultry seasoning and S&P.

Put bread in a large bowl.  Pour the vegetable mixture over the bread.  Gently toss together.

Add chicken stock, a little at a time, until the stuffing has the right amount of moisture.  Do not let it get soggy.

Taste the stuffing a add more seasonings and stock as needed.  This is all done by taste.

Cook on low in the crockpot for 8 hours, or high for 5 hours.  Stuff some in the turkey as well and remember to increase the time the turkey cooks because of the stuffing.

Happy Thanksgiving!
